Edward P. Srsic remembered his basic training at CGJ in 1943-44, as well as his return there at the end of the war in the fall of 1945.The barrack had no floor, only a catwalk down the Middle. Parade ground was all sand, like marching in a foot of snow. Part of his training was on Pig Island, called that because of all the pigs that inhabited the island. He was deployed to the European theater.
Michael Stelma also trained at CGJ from January to June 1944. At different points he was “somewhere in France”, Antwerp and eventually Yokohama by the end of the war.
